MORINGA THE NATURAL IMMUNE BOOSTER

WHY I USE MORINGA

I have been using moringa for a couple of years now and it was recommended to me by a very dear friend of mine who is a holistic nutritionist. When I was diagnosed with celiac disease I had to make many changes in my life and nutrition was something I had to modify tremendously in order to regain control over my health. I had to make many changes in my life and think twice about what I ate. Over time I came to realize that eating plant based/ vegan and adding superfoods into my diet was crucial. It came to discover that it wasn’t something I had to do once in a while but I had to make it a lifestyle. I have to admit moringa is strong in flavor and it is somewhat of an acquired taste but it’s worth trying. Foods packed with antioxidants tend to be on the bitter side. Moringa is a bit bitter with a peppery aftertaste.

WHAT IS MORINGA

Moringa Oleifera is a tree native to northwestern India.  Moringa is also known as the ben oil tree, horseradish tree and drumstick tree. The tree grows 2 meters tall and is drought tolerant. The seed nodes resemble a drumstick appearance and the pods may range between 6- 18 inches in length. The seeds, flowers and leaves are eaten because they are packed with nutrients. You can buy moringa at most local health stores and it comes in capsules and powder.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF MORINGA

Moringa is often referred to as the miracle tree because of its many health benefits. Moringa has helped me fight fatigue that is associated with celiac disease. It’s a great immunity booster and gives you bursts of energy. Moringa is fantastic for

  1. Treating Anemia and Fighting Fatigue

Celiac causes damage to the small intestine where folate, vitamin B12 and iron are absorbed. A common problem for celiacs is iron deficiency anemia that is unresponsive to iron therapy. Moringa is great for celiacs because it facilitates iron absorption and it increases red blood cell count. Anemia causes  the brain and body to have a lack of oxygen because of low iron levels. Moringa is packed with iron which is essential for reducing fatigue and feeling tiresome. Moringa is the most nutrient- dense plant know in science and only two teaspoons of moringa leaf powder contains about 2.5 grams of iron which can be compared to half a cup of cooked spinach or a serving of beef.

  1. Natural Immunity Booster

One of the many benefits I enjoy is the immune boosting effects of moringa. I remember before using moringa I would get up to 5 colds within a year. I also struggled to recover and a basic cold would take up to a month to fully recover from. After I started taking moringa I noticed how I wasn’t getting cold or flus as easily and within the last 3 years I haven’t had a single cold. Celiac is an autoimmune disease and it really does take a toll on our immune system making us more susceptible to picking up colds/ viruses. Moringa is full of vitamin A which is excellent for boosting the immune system. Vitamin A  fights off colds, infection and serious illness. Moringa has 3X more vitamin A than carrots.

  1. Reduces Stress

Stress is harmful for everyone’s health but for celiacs it can cause autoimmune flare ups that may last up to a month. Moringa holds vital adaptogens that naturally block stress from affecting the body.

  1. Strong Healthy Bones and Muscles

Malnutrition that is caused by long term exposure to gluten may cause loss of bone and muscle mass in celiacs. Moringa is loaded with calcium, vitamin K and protein which are great for promoting healthy bones. It has 17x more calcium than milk. Moringa has a great dose of protein which truly impacts your muscle mass. Since it is full of protein it makes it useful for growing healthy muscles. Powder moringa has 2x more protein than yogurt.

The following are a couple more benefits that are found in moringa powder.

  • Gives skin a healthy glow.
  • Rich in antioxidants
  • May lower blood sugar levels
  • Reduces inflammation
  • Lowers cholesterol
  • Protects against arsenic toxicity
  • Supports brain health
  • Protects the liver
  • Contains antimicrobial and antibacterial properties
  • Improves the digestion system
  • Keeps your vision clear

When my friend recommended moringa I was a bit skeptical because I couldn’t believe it had all the health benefits it claimed to have. I am glad I gave it a try and it’s become essential in my diet along with other superfoods. It’s my go to superfood for combating fatigue and giving my immune system an extra boost.

    1. Hi Mitchell. I use the Moronga, Beetroot, Maca , Camu Camu, Spirulina, hemp and turmeric. I highly recommend Celiacs go vegan. Transition slowly it’s not frustrating or feels stressful.

      1. Going vegan is the best decision Celiacs can make. Our small intestine villi have been damages and can’t absorb nutrients the way other people can. Also on a vegan diet we support and strengthen our immune system. We eliminate hormones and foods that are pumped with antibiotics we truly strengthen the immune system. Processed food, hormones, antibiotics that are use in animal products are linked to cancer and increasing autoimmune diseases. Also I noticed after becoming vegan that my body didn’t have reoccurring celiac symptoms. I no longer suffer from fibromyalgia. I retains calcium and minerals perfectly. For Celiacs it’s important to take care of our immune system and our gut. We have higher risks of stomach and colon cancer, on a vegan diet reduce our chances drastically.
